Tuveya:

Your final project was amazing. I know we weren't able to hear the audio (since Amy had it muted) but even without it, it was so interesting. I love how you had a bunch of things going on at once and you had separate drawings happening side by side. It made it more exciting to look at and kept your eyes moving the whole time. The time went by really fast because there was constantly something happening. And you're so talented! It's so satisfying to watch you draw, it's visually pleasing and therapeutic almost. The video concept was good, I like how you showed your art process, you can tell it is very thoughtful and intentional. I like your personal style and how you have a lot going on in your drawings with the portraits and the graphics happening in the background and all the colors/designs. I also like how you included personal thought blurbs about your work, it made it more personal to you. Overall, I'm obsessed with your work, and this video came out so good! I wish we could've seen it with the audio, I'm sure it's even better:) great job

Final Project

For my final project, I just want to do something fun and that makes me excited to edit. With everything going on, I feel the pressure to be very serious and make something life changing but honestly I just want to have some enjoyment again. And in the circumstances I think that's what I need the most right now. If I can make something happy and maybe get other people excited and maybe get them inspired, then that's what I'll do. Quarantine has gotten me thinking a lot more creatively and in a way has gotten me thinking like a kid again. So I want my video to to explore the imagination and not be so literal. I am deciding to let my imagination run wild with whatever comes to mind. Something I am very interested in is fashion and how styling can achieve many different identities. So, I think it would be fun to style different outfits for myself and give each outfit an identify and essentially it's own fictional character. For example, someone who wears dresses can have a different personality and story from someone who wears vests. I think it would be fun to play dress up and remove myself from my own identity and embody another with a different personality background. For this I would just need my camera, any indoor or outside space, and a few different outfits. I think it would be cool to match each outfit with its own location and see how that person might interact in that space. I would like to add instrumental music and text over the footage and include some personal writing. I just think it would be interesting to see how clothing can have its own personality in different contexts. I will include a video reference to a Youtuber and artist in Paris,  who does something very similar and has a very unique style.

Disrupting the Everyday Project Critiques

(Danielle K's)

For a simple topic, I thought her use of videos was very effective. I like how she found a common trend in her everyday videos and made it into one thing. Her videos of water are all extremely different from each other and I like how by looking into each individual window, the water video gives me a different feelings. In the video all the way to the left of the ducks in the water, it makes me feel chilly like I'm outside on a chilly summer night looking out at the lake. I think this contrasted well when you put the video of the bathtub running in the window all the way on the right. This video made me feel relaxed and cozy and warm. And I like the sound you had throughout the video of the water streaming, it was very calming which I think you intended to do. My only critique would be to be aware of your framing of each subject within the window. Some of the videos are a bit shaky or out of focus, so I would be cautious about that. Also, maybe think about only focusing on one window at a time, and masking out one or two other windows. Overall I thought it was a cohesive piece and had a relaxing effect on the viewer.

(Hannah's)

I thought Hannah's video was very meditative and relaxing. I like how she used an animation to put within the frames and I like how she really played around with editing the videos. I thought the sound fit really nice with your video and related to your theme of changing seasons. Every transition was very smooth and it flowed nicely together. I especially like when you overlayed the videos on top of each other and messed around with the opacity, it looked really nice. I also like when it looked like one object was moving fro one frame to another and moved your eye along across all the frames. Also, your ending was pleasant too I liked how it faded to white- it reminded me of winter within the seasons which was fitting. I don't have anything I would change about this, I think it's a really great video and she proved she knew what she was doing with the editing!

(Shannon's)

This was probably my favorite video! For painting on a surface, she managed to make it look extremely eerie and haunting. I love that she played around with her creativity and pushed the expectations of normal finger painting. She did a great job with matching the visuals to the audio, it was evident she put a lot of time into it. I thought it was a nice touch how she included the same footage but in black and white, it gave a different feel to it and appeared to be new footage even though it was the same footage used again. I also liked the second half when you couldn't exactly tell what was on the screen and it looked very abstract, it was very creepy and fitting. I think you did a good job using materials and changing the meaning/message of these materials. She showed a well rounded skill set of manipulating both audio and visuals- great job!

Far Away So Close reviews:

(Mel's group)

I liked your use of both music and text- it was evident that whoever edited put in a lot of thought on how they wanted the outcome to look. You guys did a good job interacting with each other in your spaces with high-fiving each other, i thought that was interesting. You guys look like you're having a lot of fun with it and enjoying yourselves. I like when "the virus" comes out and the music changes and you guys all have the same drawing, it was unexpected and made the whole pandemic have some humor in it. Then when you guys kill the virus, it makes it funny too. I like your groups approach to this project and the creative risks you took with it- you clearly used a lot of imagination. You can tell you guys premeditated the project and choreographed everything you were going to do ahead of time. The only thing I would suggest is maybe having a less abrupt ending- maybe fade the music out or fade to black? Other than that though, I thought you guys did a really nice job!

(Will's group)

I thought this was hilarious and exactly what I needed. I love the way you all enter the frame and kind of set the overall scene. For the audio, I wish you would have overlaid the song with it instead of using the recording you filmed with. I think it would have made it that much better and a bit more finished. I like the part where you guys pass the signs from each screen, it is really creative and makes everyone interactive. Also I like when you all pull your phones out and start hyping Will when he raps- it's really entertaining. You guys look like you had a lot of fun with this and it's good how well you all collaborated on this video for being in completely different places, it looked like you were all on the same page. I would suggest maybe having a fade out at the end or something that isn't as abrupt. I really like this approach and I almost wish I got to be a part of it lol.

I like how organized and complex this video was. You could tell you guys had a lot of creative ideas and had to take a lot of time to rehearse it in the specific order and memorize all the steps. I especially like when you guys reach over into each other screens to the person next to you and also the people diagonal to you. You guys definitely took a lot of creative risks with this and played around a lot with the circumstances you had. I thought it was funny at the part where you guys pass the cup around to each other then ones throws water up into the screen above her, it looked pretty believable. You guys had a lot of variety going on and fun surprises like writing different messages on the paper and it kept the audience engaged the whole time so that was really good. I like your use of sound too, it helps emphasize what is going on in the video and keeps it interesting. Overall, this group did a good job of involving everyone and keeping the audience entertained.
